First Lady Bio

First Lady Patricia Ann Hampton

PATRICIA ANN TONEY-HAMPTON was born in Madison County, Huntsville, Alabama to the late Edmond and Elizabeth Ewing Toney.  She attended the predominately black Calvary Hill Elementary and Junior High School.  After graduation, she attended Lee High School in Huntsville.

In 1973, the President of the United States (President Lyndon B. Johnson) signed into law the “Affirmative Action Program.”  She was one of 25 women chosen by the State of Alabama to participate in the program.  She was assigned to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, Alabama.  Upon completion of this program, she received an Associate Degree in Secretarial Sciences. She then went on to work under the tutelage of Dr. Werner Von Braun, who was head of the Space Program secretarial resource pool.

She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of the Douglas Tabernacle Primitive Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Anderson Douglas.  She also served as a delegate to state and local Primitive Baptist Association.

She is married to Dr. Bobby L. Hampton, and they have five children, four boys and one girl. Three of their sons are now in the ministry.  After relocating to Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1977, her husband graduated from Alabama A&M University.  He later received a Master’s and Doctorate in Pastoral Studies from Covington Theological Seminary. He now serves as the Senior Pastor of the Hawkinsville Missionary Baptist Church, where they celebrated 25 years in the ministry on July 24, 2009.

First Lady Patricia Hampton states, “The time is now to educate and empower this new generation with the truth of God’s Word, if we fail to do this now we will reap the weeds of our ignorance instead of the flowers of our love.”
